Air Force Mission

The mission of the U.S. Air Force is to defend the United States through control and exploitation of air and space. Teamed with the Army, Navy and Marine Corps, the Air Force is prepared to fight and win any war if deterrence fails. To meet this challenge, the Air Force brings six core competencies to the fight:

  • Air and space superiority
  • Global attack
  • Rapid global mobility
  • Precision engagement
  • Information superiority
  • Agile combat support
