Vehicle and Seating Arrangements

There are many combinations of vehicle seating arrangements depending upon the number of DVs and hosts and whether or not spouses are included. The number one general rule is that you always place the highest-ranking individual in the back right seat of any vehicle, which is the place of honor. If the host is the highest-ranking individual, he or she may choose to relinquish this position to a lower ranking visitor out of courtesy.

Some other key points to remember are:

  1. The use of lead and trail security vehicles is optional, but will ensure timely movement and not allow other vehicles to interfere with the motorcade. Also, road guards at busy intersections are an option when no lead or trail vehicles are used.
  2. Always try to have a separate vehicle with baggage handlers to take care of DVs' luggage. Do not make your visitors wait on the flight line for their bags. It is much more appropriate to have luggage delivered to the DV's quarters.
